The basic difference is that the AA and the RAC have their own fleets of vehicles and patrolmen/women, whereas Green Flag and others do not, but call out contracted agents from local garages as and when required.
I left Green Flag some years ago when I needed them and a bloke eventually turned up in a knackered van with a few spanners. He had little clue about what to do and in any case didn’t have the tools . . . .

I have never been with green flag, but am with RAC and last year my old car kept conking out and they were worth every penny

My father was with Green Flag a few years back, and when he needed them, it seemed they just couldn’t be bothered. Perhaps you get what you pay for? I get my cover inclusive with my car insurance, and they use local tow-trucks/mechanics if I do need them – since I have a Mercedes, I never do.
