what would you do in regards to this . . ?
I work for a family run business , they all have company cars yet I dont but do just as much driving for business purposes. I have a company pertrol card but that dosent cover cost of repairs etc . . they are being funny with me due to an incident where i broke down closer to home than work so stayed there. They were unfair about it docking pay yet i do favours out of work for them in my vehicle , so i decided i did not want to use my car for them to run down as the milage will increase and will be worthless whe i come to sell.
It is now causing more bother than its worth as there is a bad atmosphere when it comes to vehicles at work. What should i do??
What is your opinion on this?
Sorry if it isnt too clear
You need to work out a compensation package for the use of your vehicle for business purposes. The cost of fuel is a factor, but that is not the only cost of driving. Repairs, maintenance, and depreciation of the value of the vehicle are all factors that must be taken into account.
You should either get a sum per mile, or a flat rate to use your vehicle.
Good luck
sit down and talk to them , you need them and they need you , get rid of the bad stuff and move on it’s only a job
if they wont pay you a reasonable car allowance then use your car for getting to and from work and they will have to let you use one of the company vehicles for company business.
if they have unfairly docked money then perhaps its time you stopped doing them favours and just do your job.
the problem with family business when your not part of the family is that you are running uphill all the while.
You need to look at the facts not the feelings. If you want a company car give the facts. I drive x amount of miles every month and while I appreciate the gas card the millage is great the wear on my car is to much. If you want me to continue to use my car I need more compensation for it. Ask for the cost of repairs and bring in some prices of what it cost. Oil changes, tires, brakes, etc. Do not talk about what others get and its not fair, stick to your own situation use your facts and do not complain.
The first thing you should be worried about is using your private car for business related travel, if you haven’t got cover for business use, you will be left with no cover and liable for a big fine and points on your licence.
Remember, most policies cover you for social, domestic and pleasure, including travel to and from a permanent place of work, it does not cover you to make deliveries or any other business related driving.
That said, you should use this as a leverage point, by saying that your insurance company have found out about you using your car for business travel and have threatened to revoke it.Tell them that if they require you to drive for them, you will need a company insured vehicle to drive. If not you will be breaking the law, and no one can force you to do that, if they then tried to get rid of you, you would have a strong case for unfair dismissal.
Be polite when you bring up the legal issues and explain that you cannot afford 8-12 points on your licence for an insurance offence.
