Should I sell my Corsa or not?
Hello all
Bought my first car a 1994 Corsa for £430 3 weeks ago, brokedown 3 times, I thought it was battery but turns out it was cam belt that had caused damage to engine pistons/valves that are now bent and need replacing at a cost of £350 as well as the cam belt at £125! Now, considering I am still paying £67 a month for insurance and breakdown cover, should I cut my losses and just sell it for cheap to a mechanic who may be interested, or should I fork out the money and hope the car is worth it??? Now, I know the car was dirt cheap, but it was all I could afford at the time and YES i should have taken a mechanic with me, but all these lessons I have learnt, so please no lectures or rude comments! I just dont know what to do? Ps, have been told these cars last a long time, although it 13 years old already.
Thanks in advance for your replies.
Thanks guys
why not look for an engine off of a later model at the breakers yard and get someone to put it in,The cambelt should be changed every so many thousand miles, according to the service schedule.these later vauxhalls are far better than before.
good luck
Sale the car and hope for the best but let whoever you sell it to know that it needs fixed, Next time take someone with you and don’t be afraid to ask questions
Next time get a VW Golf Diesel they generally do last a long time.
Not so sure about Corsas though.
Yes get it fixed, another cheap car will only have problems as well
hi i dont fink u shud sell the car as its an awsum car x
try and get a fitted replacement recon engine @ £400 > £500
good luck
If it has a really long mot?Its just about worth sorting. If the mot is short? get rid of it as a1994 corsa will need work done for its mot and more money will be needed?
It’s certainly not worth spending £500 to repair it. One option if you have the space would be to buy another similar model of Corsa, in good condition, then you could keep the dead one for a cheap source of spares.
Otherwise, I’d chalk it down to experience, but I wouldn’t waste my money on fixing it.
one thing is why are they charginging you £125 to turn the crank over?
The cambelt should be changeed with the head coming off any way, And get the water pump and pulleys changed at the same time.
It depends on the state of the car. If its good condition with long mot then get it done. If not get rid and take somebody to go with you that knows what they are doing.
if you’ve only just bought it then i would keep it cos older cars that u buy cheap tend 2 have problems. Ur suppose to change the cambelt every so often anyway, but u could get a new engine dropped in. might be a bit cheaper if u go to the scrappy.
