Should I sell my Corsa or not?
Hello all
Bought my first car a 1994 Corsa for £430 3 weeks ago, brokedown 3 times, I thought it was battery but turns out it was cam belt that had caused damage to engine pistons/valves that are now bent and need replacing at a cost of £350 as well as the cam belt at £125! Now, considering I am still paying £67 a month for insurance and breakdown cover, should I cut my losses and just sell it for cheap to a mechanic who may be interested, or should I fork out the money and hope the car is worth it??? Now, I know the car was dirt cheap, but it was all I could afford at the time and YES i should have taken a mechanic with me, but all these lessons I have learnt, so please no lectures or rude comments! I just dont know what to do? Ps, have been told these cars last a long time, although it 13 years old already.
Thanks in advance for your replies.
Thanks for your responses but even now the responses are about 50/50!!!!!!! Might just pull it out of a hat.
First get as many quotes as you can, do not tell them you have been in any other places just ask them how much to repair damage, also ask how much a new engine would be cos it might be cheaper, second see what cars that are ok are selling for similar to yours but working, therefore say if it cost to £300 with some haggling to get the work done + orignal cost of car it is £430 even if you can get £600 for the car boosting a new engine you are only down £130, all i am saying is work it out, not sure how much you will get for the car scrap. You may also get some money back for for the tax. Sit down do not worry yourself and review all options.
Corsa’s are very reliable cars,if the mileage isn’t ridiculously high then get it done
get rid of it i also got a corsa and its 4 years old and since april this year its had …. new handbreak , exhaust , break pads ,…now its in garage at the min cos it wont go in 1st and 2nd gear and when my brother took it in garage this morn for him to have a look the handbreak cable snapped
so think corsas are s**t and im going to get rid of mine after xmas
Why not have a mechanic give it a complete look over. Then, if all it needs is an engine, you can weigh the cost. If a lot of other things are suspect, then the decision is made.
check the condition of the engine, exhaust system and fuel system. if those are good then get the job done. if not then just sell it because you’re gonna have more problems in the future. also check the suspension.
Bin it! That old gas guzzler will kill our children! Buy a bike , lose some calories and do the planet a favour!
yes cos the money u spend keeping it running ub can spend on a new reliable car so in the long run u will save money
short & sweet. Get rid of it for $$$
Get rid. If you get it fixed you will have spent nearly a £1000 in month on it. It will get no better with general wear and tear on a car of that age, the next MOT? You will be better off getting a bank loan and buying a reasonable car.
Yes, sell, and buy a Toyota or a Honda next time.
I wouldnt own one if it was given to me.
