Recommended break down cover for older cars?
Have been on my parents policy for 5years with my mini as it was cheaper for them but as Im moving out soon thought I should get my own policy. My mini is 1979 but really reliable and just been restored so more like a newer car than a classic.
Was just wondering which is the best breakdown cover to go with, just in case. My dad knows quite a bit about cars so in the past have just rung him so wouldn’t need a mega covered one, just basics incase Im out somewhere.
Also I’m not sure what sort of cover to go for, the bacis ones or the added extra ones?
Extended warranties are the biggest waste of money there is and most are limited to cars that are 15 years old or newer. The dealers and car salesmen make more off extended warranties than they do off of selling a vehicle. Just set aside an amount you can live with each payday in a separate account to cover any repairs that may come up in the future. If you don’t have to use it, then you’ll have a nice down payment nest egg when you’re ready to buy a new car some day.
At your age you will look a spending some money.
Try keep it with your parents and promiss to pay it.

AA, RAC and Greenflag are the main ones. All have good and bad reviews. Main thing is you want no quibble home recovery. So they will take you, the car and you passengers all the way home no matter where you are.
When the car is safely at home you can take your time to consider your options as to fixing it.
If you get basic recovery they will take you to the nearest garage of their choice ( some nice little backhand deals go on between recovery co’s and garages). The garage knows you are over a barrel and will screw you for everything they can. Especially if they know you are hundreds of miles from home.
AA or RAC with relay to destination Maybe leave off home start if you are not too far from dad – cost about £90 for the first year on RAC
