Finding the Breakdown Cover That is Best for You
my car has broken down?
I bought a citroen c4 about 7 months ago, the car still has 13 months warrenty on it. I had it serviced in Jan at my local citroen garage, I felt that it didn’t run quite as well as before it was serviced. About a week ago I heard a very slight tapping noise, yesterday the screen flashed that there was a antipollution problem and the car started loosing power. I took it back to the citroen garage, who now say that the fuel filter is full of dirt and it not covered under warrenty, I normally get my fuel from my local tesco, but it is not unusual if I’m out of the area to pop into anther garage for fuel. The bill looks as though it will be the best part of £1,000, I’m devastated, is there anything else I can do regarding getting this sorted?

Hi
DON’T AUTHORISE THE REPAIR!!!!!!
Its not the fuel filter thats full of sh*t, its your dealer, which is much more serious!!
Its just a scam to get out of a warranty claim. Thay have ballsed something up on the service, and from the sounds of it, its something to do with the oil, not enough, wrong grade, whatever. I am basing this on the light tapping, which I believe to be the tappets.
Tell them you want an independant second opinion because you believe they have caused the problem, and that you will choose the garage and take it there in case they try to influence the result. Don’t be scared to tell them what you think, you said yourself the car wasn’t running quite so after the service.
It would not cost a grand to renew a fuel filter and blow the lines out.
Don’t let them do this to you, they’re covering their own arses coz they’ve boo booed.
If you would like me to mail you a letter which you can then personalise and send to them then just let me know, it would be my pleasure!
Cheers

Take it to a back street garage a new fuel filter only costs a few pounds £1,000 sounds like you are being riped off…

Also, contact tesco, there was of course the huge fiasco a few weeks ago where 400,000 people ended up having nightmares because of a bad batch of fuel. They all received compensation for the vehicle repairs.

Are you starting to get ethanol gas in the UK like we are here in the Mid-Atlantic USA? The professional journals are saying that it’s possible when ethanol is first put in your fuel tank that tank and line contaminants that have built up can become dislodged and dissolved. They mention fuel filter clogging and fuel injector contamination problems. But if your basic gasoline type has not changed, then it probably has no bearing on your problem. If the MIL (yellow check engine Malfunction Indicator Lamp) flashes on and off during acceleration at any time, it means your ECM (Engine Control Management) computer is going open loop to protect your catalytic converter from damage. (OBD-II vintage ECM assumed). A clogged fuel filter and contaminated injectors cause an engine misfire which can overload your catalytic converter. What are your MIL engine error codes?

WOW ! For a fuel filter. I would start by having another opinion. Just let them know that you think that is too high, and that you want to have it checked out elsewhere. Don’t tell the new garage that you already had it checked, and see what their answer is first.Tell them only what has happened, and to call you if the bill will be more than say, "$200.00 ". If they fix it for under $200, then be happy or at least you will find out if your garage is ripping you off.I find it is so hard to find an honest garage these days. I used to do all my own work, until all this" bull" got added under the hood .Now it’s hard if you don’t have the computer equipment to check it out with .You can ask them to put it on the computer to check for the code or codes that describes the ailment. That usually can be done for under $40.00 and they should provide you with a readout slip from the computer. Then you can go have it serviced wherever you want, knowing at least, what the problem is ,before you start . Best of luck to you! Mark

It’s more likely to be the Lamba sensor that faulty. It’s going to be due to the bad fuel that Tescos supplied last month

£1,000 for replacing petrol filter? It is obsured.
I bet with that amount, my mechanic would completely tear down my engine and rebuild it twice!!
Refuse repair.
Seek for second opinion.

If you can prove the fuel from Tesco is at fault- Tesco will pay for all repairs, speak with the store manager and he will tell you what to do next
