You could take the view that it is not your car so the owner, boyfriend or not, should take the responsibility.
If you and your boyfriend live together then you could get joint personal cover and split the cost 50/50 which makes it quite reasonable.

how much is this personal cover / vehicle cover? I would go with the personal cover and you can charge all your peeps to fix their cars and have the personal coverage do it. I have a bridge in Brooklyn that I’ll sell ya that the repairs can be done on.

In my mind the best way is to get personal cover. That way you have the peace of mind knowing that whatever car you are in you are covered !
